Day 01: Exploring The Surrounding Historical Sites (D)
Upon arrival to the Dien Bien Phu Airport, you will be met by the tour guides. He will give a short tour brief and will take you to your pre-booked hotel. Check in the hotel.
Drive out to explore some of the key historical sites around Muong Thanh Valley. Visit the Army Museum, Hill A1 – the site of the fiercest battle, and the former French Headquarters with the De Castries bunker (PC GONO).
Continue on to Dominique Hill, home to the 220-ton bronze Victory Monument, where you can take in sweeping views of the city and the surrounding valley.
End your day by returning to your hotel for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 02: Exploring The Dien Bien Phu Campaign Headquarters (B/L/D)
Breakfast at the hotel. Enjoy a morning tour of Dien Bien Phu historical sites. Set off on a 30 km drive to Muong Phang, the Viet Minh headquarters during the 1954 campaign. Enjoy breathtaking scenery as you pass hill tribe villages nestled in evergreen forests. For those interested, there will be time to stroll through a Thai tribal village and take photographs.
After about an hour, arrive at the headquarters site and walk through the hilly forest where General Giap and his chief of staff lived while directing the battles of Dien Bien Phu. Explore some of the old bunkers, tunnels, and the residence of the Chinese military adviser. It’s also a great opportunity to meet and chat with the friendly local Thai people.
On the way back, stop at viewpoints to capture the stunning panorama of Pa Khoang Reservoir, which supplies water to the entire Muong Thanh Valley irrigation system, and admire the terraced rice fields shimmering in the setting sun.
Return to the hotel for an overnight stay, with two options for the evening:
(1) Dinner at the hotel followed by free time.
(2) Drive out to a local Thai village to enjoy traditional food and watch Thai folk dancing. Note: Private traditional music and dancing show by local people is available with extra cost of $100/group. Please ask our guide to reserve if you are interested in. Overnight in Dien Bien Phu.
Day 03: Dien Bien Phu – Muong Lay – Lai Chau (B/L/D)
Enjoy your hotel breakfast and checkout. Depart north toward Lai Chau, a land inhabited by colorful Hmong communities. As you cross Muong Cha and Muong Lay, meet local women dressed in vibrant traditional attire, adorned with silver or gold jewelry. Stop in the villages to interact with the locals and experience their authentic lifestyle.
Around midday, we’ll arrive at Muong Lay, a relocation area for hundreds of Thai villagers who previously lived in valleys flooded by the Lai Chau – Son La hydroelectric reservoir. Here, you may take a tea break or stop at the scenic junction of two rivers, a place as poetic as its view. You can also visit the remains of an ancient Thai king’s fortress, which fell in 1953 when the Vietnamese People’s Army liberated the area on their way to Dien Bien Phu.
Continue your journey along the Nam Na River, enjoying lush landscapes and discovering Thai, Dao, and Mong villages, observing their daily life and cultivation practices.
Arrive in Lai Chau City in the late afternoon, check in the hotel and rest for the day. The car with the driver will be available for you at your convenience.
Day 04: Lai Chau – Rong May Glass Bridge - Sapa (B/L/D)
After an early breakfast at the hotel, you leave Lai Chau for the beautiful drive along the Hoang Lien Son mountain range. This tranquil and picturesque landscape is perfect for photography. Along the way, you’ll encounter local women are traditionally distinguished by blackened teeth and indigo clothing decorated with silver coins. Take time to meet villagers and interact—hand gestures and body language are often enough to communicate.
For nature lovers, there is an optional walk on a glass-bottomed footbridge connecting two mountains along a cliff. Enjoy panoramic views and feel fully immersed in nature.
Please note that this activity is not recommended for those afraid of heights, with heart conditions, or weak nerves (extra fee applies).
Continue toward Sapa via the Hoang Lien Son pass (O Quy Ho Pass), Vietnam’s longest and highest pass at 54 km in length and 2,047 m in height. Stop at the summit to relax, take in the breathtaking scenery, and capture photos.
Arrive in Sapa in the afternoon, a town discovered by the French in 1903. Known for its temperate climate, terraced rice fields, and diverse ethnic groups—including Black Mong, Red Dao, and Dzay—Sapa is a favorite destination for travelers. Some local women may even speak English, French, or German.
Check in to the hotel and rest, or take a leisurely stroll through town to enjoy the fresh mountain air. Explore the lively streets, visit the local market, or watch ethnic folk performances. If your visit falls at the end of the week, you may have the chance to experience the Mong minority’s “Love Exchange Market”—a truly unique cultural tradition.

Day 05: Conquest The Fansipan Peak – Cat Cat Village (B/L/D)
Wake up fresh, enjoy your hotel breakfast and walk around to explore the beautiful Sapa. It’s a perfect photo opportunity and a peaceful start to your morning. Today, you will have two options:
OPTION 1:
Visit Fansipan Legend, the cable car area in Sapa. This cable car takes visitors to the summit of Fansipan, the highest mountain in Vietnam at 3,143 meters above sea level. Stretching over 6 km, the route starts from the center of Sapa town and ends at the mountain peak. Enjoy breathtaking panoramic views from the top. (Please note: during winter, visibility may be limited due to cold and haze.)
OPTION 2:
Experience Cat Cat Village, located about 5 km west of Sapa. Trek through the terraced rice fields of Muong Hoa Valley. Follow the downhill path through the village, meeting friendly Mong women and children living in houses nestled in the valley.
Take a moment to relax at the beautiful wooden cable bridge and enjoy the harmony of the surrounding nature. For the more adventurous, continue uphill along the buffalo path for stunning views and fewer tourists. For a gentler experience, enjoy a leisurely stroll along the Muong Hoa River.
Return to the hotel. Feel free to go explore local markets. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.
Day 06: Travel to Hanoi (B/L)
Have breakfast at the hotel and prepare your luggage. Enjoy a quiet moment at a café before departure.
This will be the last day of this Northwest tour. With all the good wishes and memories, your driver will pick you up from the hotel and transfer you to Hanoi.
Transfer by bus to Hanoi, with lunch en route. Arriving in your pre-booked hotel by early evening, completing your unforgettable journey. Farewell and see you again!

Price: The advertised price is in US dollars and includes Government taxes as per the itinerary. The price based on minimum 6 passenger numbers and may increase if minimum numbers are not met, or decrease if the number of passengers exceeds the minimum. Hoang Nam Travel would advise in this instance of any changes.
Deposit Requirement: 50% deposit is required to confirm your booking. The remaining 50% may be paid either before or upon arrival in Dien Bien Phu; if settled after arrival, payment must be made in Vietnam Dong (VND) before the tour starts, based on the exchange rate at the time of confirmation.
Cancellation Policy:
Deposit is non-refundable (unless the tour is cancelled due to a Force Majeure event).
Tour cancellation conditions for weekdays
- Penalty 50% of the tour price: Before 15 days of departure
- Penalty 70% of the tour price: Before 05 days of departure
- Penalty 100% of the tour price: Before 02 days of departure
Tour cancellation conditions for holidays and Traditional Tet
- Penalty 50% of the tour price: Before 30 days of departure
- Penalty 70% of the tour price: Before 20 days of departure
- Penalty 100% of the tour price: Before 10 days of departure
Note: Cancellation fees for airfares vary, depending on airlines and their individual conditions. These are not included in the above cancellation fees
Amendments: A fee of $100 may apply to any change made to your booking once confirmed
Refunds: No refund is available if cancellations occur after the tour has commenced or in respect of any tours, accommodation, meals or any other services not utilised, in accordance with the regular cancellation policy.
Itinerary Changes & Tour Cancellation: Hoang Nam Travel reserves the right to vary itineraries should circumstance dictate, as well as cancel or reschedule any tour departure in accordance with operating requirements, or circumstances beyond its control. Any changes must be communicated to customers with an explanation.
Hotels listed are to be used as a guide only, and are subject to availability unless otherwise stipulated. Hoang Nam Travel reserves the right to amend or deviate from the tour itinerary as circumstances require, while endeavoring to maintain the listed destinations and an equivalent standard of accommodation whenever possible. Coach use is subject to Driver Regulations.
Baggage Allowance & Porterage: Porterage of one suitcase per person is included in the tour price for arrival & departure from hotels in Vietnam. Due to limited coach capacity the sum of the length, width & depth of the case should not exceed 160cm (63 inches), and weight should not exceed 20kg (44 Lbs). Charges may be levied in the event these limits are exceeded & the promise to transport you may be invalidated.
What’s Not Included: Passports and applicable visa fees, laundry, phone calls, items of a personal nature, beverages, meals and sightseeing not detailed on the itinerary, tips and gratuities to the Tour Director, coaches drivers and local guides, excess baggage, optional excursions and travel insurance. Force majeure cases
OTHER NOTES:
Customers aged 70 to under 75 years old are required to sign a health commitment with the Company. Customers aged 75 and over are required to have a full health certificate for traveling abroad issued by a doctor + a health commitment form with the Company. A relative under 60 years of age (in good health) must accompany. In addition, customers over 75 are encouraged to pay for additional premium insurance (fees vary depending on the tour). We do not accept guests from 80 years old and above.
Pregnant guests, please inform the tour sales staff at the time of booking for further information. We do not accept pregnant women from 5 months onwards for safety reasons.
Children not accompanied by their parents, require authorization from their parents and confirmation from the Ward/Commune where their permanent residence is registered.
Customers who want to issue a red invoice, please inform the consultant when booking the tour. At the latest 7 days after the end of the tour.
The program and hotels may change the order to suit the actual situation of the group. Check-in time at the hotel: after 14:00 and check-out before 12:00
In the case of force majeure due to weather, natural disasters, riots, war, epidemics, flight delays or cancellations due to weather or technical reasons..., the tour cannot be continued, Hoang Nam travel will refund the tour fee to customers after deducting the service costs already performed and will not be responsible for compensating any other costs.
